What to Expect

Check if Your Pet is Stable

Upon arrival at Island Pet Urgent Care, an experienced veterinary nurse begins assessing your pet immediately while you are checking in. You will be asked questions about your pet’s condition, and the nurse will obtain vital signs. If there is EMERGENT concern about your pet, they may ask the doctor to look immediately. If your pet is determined to be STABLE, they will wait with you until the consultation with the doctor.

Comprehensive Exam & Consult

Your doctor will meet with you and your pet for a complete physical exam. Based on your pet’s detailed history and exam findings, your doctor will make recommendations for diagnostics and care.

Transparent Cost Estimate

Your dedicated veterinary nurse will prepare a treatment plan to include testing and treatments the doctor feels necessary. This includes a transparent cost estimate. Your nurse may discuss third-party payment options for your pet’s plan if needed. Cost estimates are presented as a range and can be amended. Our focus is improving your pet’s condition and helping them feel better sooner.

Diagnostics & Treatment

Island Pet Urgent Care offers a wide array of tools to identify the source of your pet’s illness or to determine how severe their injuries may be.

  • Onsite Digital X-Ray

  • Onsite FAST Ultrasound

  • Onsite Laboratory for Blood, Urine and Fecal Analysis

  • Onsite Pharmacy

  • Parvo, FeLV/FIV, Heartworm Testing

After all vital information is gathered, results will be discussed and your pet’s nurse will provide any recommended treatments. This can include fluids, pain medications, antibiotics, or anti-nausea medication.

Rest & Recovery

If your pet can recover at home, your doctor will provide written discharge instructions and your nurse will discuss any prescribed medications. In addition, a copy of the medical record will be sent to your family veterinarian to ensure continuity of care.

Overnight Care

If your pet is diagnosed with a condition requiring overnight hospitalization, they must transfer to another facility. Island Pet Urgent Care will provide stabilization to make a transfer as comfortable as possible. We will contact a 24-hour facility and ensure they are prepared to take over your pet’s care. The choice of where to transfer your pet is yours.
